Gardening is Exhausting! Part 2

Well it seems that whenever you make plans about what you want in a garden life conspires to turn everything upside down.

The lily bulbs will have to wait until the fall since I got everything ready just a week late to buy the bulbs I wanted. That's ok though. I'll do all of the bulbs at once and that part will be done.

The center of the garden has changed unexpectedly too. I found a rose. Rather, I should say that it found me. I was walking into my grocery store when I smelled this amazing rose from several feet away. I followed the scent and it was a hybrid tea called "Oklahoma". I put it in my mental file for future reference but a week later it was still there and I just had to have it. So it is now the centerpiece of this part of the front garden.

Since I still have bulbs to plant I decided that annuals would be the way to go for this season. I finally stopped into a nursery that I pass all the time. I was in heaven, I wish my mom could be there with me. Maybe in another month or so. I bought Alyssum, celosia, marigolds and dianthus. I also planted some broccoli seeds and a few are coming up. There is absolutely no rule that says you can't plant veggies with flowers, so there! LOL

We had another tree cut down. Actually it fell down on our fence and we had to have it cut before it totally destroyed it. I have to wonder what it is about people sometimes. When you have a lot with trees, isn't it your responsibility to survey it from time to time and remove the trees that pose a potential hazard? This tree had been leaning for the past two years. It's not like this was a surprise to these people. But since I'd like to live here for the next few decades I'm just going to suck it up and keep in mind that this neighbor is a complete boob about the upkeep of his backyard and I'll keep my tree guy's number on speed dial.

And since I had to have the tree cut and I'll have to pay for my fence I decided that I would keep the wood for my own use. So PHLBBTTT! to that neighbor. LOL

I asked my tree guy if he could cut the larger part of the trunk into disks that I could use for stepping stones in my garden that I was building. He did and for no extra cost. My tree guy is FABULOUS! And my wood stepping stones look wonderful. Very rustic and natural looking. I can't wait for the alyssum to fill in around the disks.

Today was the big planting day. We filled in all of the empty spots with the annuals. Some adjustment had to be made because I discovered today that the broccoli seeds that we planted actually did sprout. They were just a little slow. LOL I can identify with that.

It's beginning to look good. And the best part is....less grass to mow!
